NAACP of Albuquerque Issues Statement in Response to Cowboys for Trump "Go Back to Africa" Comment

The Albuquerque chapter of the NAACP sent out a statement from President Harold Bailey on July 28, 2020 in response to comments made by the founder of Cowboys for Trump. During a Facebook live video, that has since been removed, Otero County Commissioner Couy Griffin said that people who support the idea of playing the Black National Anthem at football games are trying to "destroy our country" and should "go back to Africa." Harold Bailey said this is one of the most hateful statements he's heard in recent history.

The Albuquerque NAACP is greatly disappointed in the inflammatory statements made by a public official. Otero County Commissioner Couy Griffin made demeaning, and derogatory comments about African Americans who seek equality, justice and equal protection under the laws.

The New Mexico Black Leadership Council stands with the NAACP in condemning the alarming and inflammatory statements made by County Commissioner Griffin.
